Anyone who spends a few minutes researching bamboo often comes away with the knowledge that, "you can do any thing with bamboo!"
While this is mostly true, 'anything' isn't a product. Kiln-dried poles as stand-alone items add wonderful accents to any home. Bamboo can be custom cut and stained to order to compliment any decor.
Bamboo Poles
Bamboo poles can also be split, allowing for an even larger variety of custom home interior designs. Wall facing, wall art, sconces and valences are just a few items you can use for interior design and decorating.
Various timber and decorative varieties can meet anyone's needs with many different levels of customization available. For a quick, room-accenting feature, you could combine bamboo poles varying in size and color to make a custom-made Boo-Quets which is perfect for any size home or apartment. Mix and match your favorite styles, colors and varieties for a unique and personal touch!
Choosing the Right Pole
In terms of color, most people enjoy the natural beauty of bamboo. Henon provides a subtle olive green, silver-ish color, while Moso is a bold, golden brown. Choosing the right species is a matter of taste, as is the decision to stain or flame-treat it.
But, as a diamond is judged on color, carat, cut and clarity, so too is bamboo judged on color, cut and cracking.
Most bamboo that is treated overseas is air-dried, which leads to pole cracking, especially for thinner-walled species. You should try to find bamboo poles that are kiln-dried, which ensures that moisture content in the poles will always be low so it will very rarely if ever crack.
Cut is also important, when bamboo is young, its outer wall is very thin. As it gets older, it grows thicker on the inside. By the time timber bamboo species reach 5 years of age, they are extremely thick and excellent for landscaping and lumber. In fact, bamboo can be manufactured into flooring that is many times stronger than oak!
When selecting bamboo poles always obtain bamboo that's least 3-5 years old when harvested, depending on the end user's needs. Decorative poles can be harvested in year 3 as non-timber species are not required for bearing weight.
To be able to judge the age of bamboo, simply turn it on its side. Most timber species, if harvested properly, should have a thick outer wall at the base that slowly tapers off to the top. It is at the end of the pole where the most cracking occurs, so be sure to note whether the end of the pole has an intact node or not.
Decorative species tend to have thinner walls, so be sure to check your pole for cracks before purchasing.
Maintenance
Many American bamboo harvesters kiln-dry bamboo poles so they require very little maintenance. As they're already dried to under 20% moisture, there's very little that outside temperature changes and humidity can do to warp or crack the poles. Keep your poles clean by simply washing them with soap and water.
Likewise, stained and fire-treated poles require little in the way of maintenance. Properly stained bamboo pole's color will not fade over time. As with all organic products, however, some color fading may occur over the span of several years.
Choosing an All-American Product
The highest quality bamboo poles are grown, harvested and produced right here in the good ol' US of A! The majority of all bamboo products in America are brought here from overseas manufacturers. Domestic groves in the United States have helped wean ourselves off of foreign sources of bamboo, making this remarkable plant truly green.

Sinigang is a famous recipe especially in the Tagalog area. It can be prepared using shrimp, beef, chicken, pork or fish. For this recipe, we are going to use shrimp because it is my personal favorite. The characteristic taste of sinigang is sour and the flavor is such because of the tamarind. Traditionally, you have to boil the tamarind in water so as to achieve the sour flavor. But with the fast-paced life of Filipino households today, there are several brands of instant tamarind mixes that will make cooking easier and faster. The demand of these sinigang mixes have soared in the last few years because this dish is undeniably delicious and satisfying that most families could never do away with it even for just a week. For this recipe though, we are going to use the traditional method.
Ingredients:
- 1 kilo shrimp
- 2 pieces radish (regular size, sliced)
- 1 bundle Kangkong (cut into 2" long)
- 1 bundle sitaw (string beans)
- ¼ kilo sampalok (tamarind)
- 3 pieces long green chilli
- 3 tomatoes (sliced into quarters)
- 1 onion (diced)
- water
- salt or patis (to taste)
N/A
Cooking procedure:
- To soften the tamarind, place in a small casserole or pan together with water and bring to a boil. Mash and have all the juices extracted.
- Place the radish, tomatoes, onions, tamarind juice and water in a casserole. Place under medium heat and bring to a boil.
- Adjust the fire to low and add the shrimps, green long chili, string beans, and kangkong. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Use salt or patis for seasoning.
- You can place the cooked sinigang nga hipon in a palayok (pot) and serve hot.

1. Why are some plants and animals viewed organic?
You have organically grown food if natural ways are utilised to cultivate and process it. Although it is parasitical for persons it is remarkable to the protection of the surroundings.
Organica Biotech
For plants and crops to be organic they must substantially be produced with no artificial additives and fertiliser, synthetic pesticides and any form of biotechnology. If animals are fed with organic feed, not confined to small spaces for long periods and do not take antibiotics, they are then interpreted organic.
Every country uses its own standards to define what food which is organic is.
2. So, is food which is organic wholesome for us anyway?
Plants create additional vitamin and antioxidants to protect themselves when pesticides are absent. Therefore, organic food will present more nutritional value than not organically grown food.
When food which is not organic is taken very tiny amounts of pesticides are ingested by our bodies. When animals are vaccinated utilising antibiotics they develop small amounts of resistance to diseases and may be more costly to rear.

Less toxic waste and synthetic chemicals are released to the environment, producing richer soil and cleaner water in the ground, when organically grown food is grown.Marine life is disturbed and drinking water polluted when pesticides are employed. It is also acknowledged that organically grown food demands little energy since it solely relies on natural means to produce. Food which is organic demands simple packaging and collection of waste is minimized. Naturally existing plant and animal species are not prone to genetic pollution from genetically altered species if organically grown food is grown only.
It seems there is information that more output per hectare are produced by genetically changed crops when compared to organic crops. Substantially, small amounts of pesticides and fertilizer are wanted for organically grown foods as compared to non-organic, although output tend to be less.
4. Are we able to afford food which is organic?
The high comprehended value of organically grown food makes it more dear than non-organic,because it is inexpensive to produce. The best way to find low-cost organically grown food is to buy from grocery shops which order organically grown foods direct from local farms. Normally, it is the alien foods which are organic which tends to be more expensive, but could be of outstanding quality since the crops may have been produced under the best climatic circumstances.
